Registration

  • Intermediate: Understands boating safety and basic boating right of way. Assist in MOB situation and boat docking. Basic helming. For sailboats, assists with sail trim & tacking and raising & flaking sails.
  • First Mate: Can return boat to dock in emergencies. Can use VHF radio, helm, read electronic navigation, take control in MOB situation. For sailboats, control sails in any wind conditions, including reefing main.
  • Co-Skipper: Capable of operating the boat without skipper’s assistance. Knows USCG Navigational and Safety regulations.

REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS

Sign up is the honor system.  Know your own skills.  Be honest.  The safety of the boat depends on it.


**WHEN SIGNING UP, BASED ON YOUR SKILLS, LOOK FOR OPEN SLOTS AS FOLLOWS:

Co-Skipper - can sign up for Co-Skipper, First Mate, Crew and Novice slots.  Take the highest skilled open slot. 

Co-Skipper: Capable of operating the boat without skipper’s assistance.  Knows USCG Navigational and Safety regulations.

First Mate - can sign up First Mate, Crew and Novice.  Take the highest skilled open slot.

First Mate: Can return boat to dock in emergencies.  Can use VHF radio, helm, read electronic navigation, take control in MOB situation. For sailboats, control sails in any wind conditions, including reefing main

Intermediate - can sign up Intermediate and Novice.  Take the highest skilled open slot.

Intermediate: Understands boating safety and basic boating right of way.  Assist in MOB situation and boat docking.  Basic helming.  For sailboats, assists with sail trim & tacking and raising & flaking sails.

Novice - can sign up for Novice or Passenger.
Novice: Minimal to no sailing or boating experience. Is willing and able to assist as directed and needed by Skipper.

Passenger - ONLY sign up for Passenger

Passenger: is only willing and able to join in on the excursion, not expecting to assist with any sailing, docking or other boating assistance.

Boating Protocol:

  • New members must have attended an NCSS Boat Orientation before signing up for any boating event

  • Bring appropriate clothing, foul weather gear, hat, jacket, sun glasses, sun screen, bottled water (no glass)

  • Wear non-marking, closed toe, skid-proof shoes

Disclaimer:
  • Registration for this event is tentative - - the skippers have the FINAL decision as to who crew on their boat

  • A confirmation email will follow (1) one week prior to the scheduled sail.

Cancellation Policy:
  • Crew who register and are unable to participate MUST call their skipper as well as the assigned coordinator.

  • Foul weather cancellations are made by the skipper and/or coordinator ONLY. Be on the dock on time – the weather may clear.
